New Zealand Poisonous Spiders

New Zealand is situated in the pacific ocean in the southern hemisphere, it’s a very small country with about 4 ½ million people. New Zealand has 3 different types of poisonous spiders. The Katipo, Red Back, and White-Tail. The White-Tail and Red Back were both originally from Australia while the Katipo (Night-Stinger) is native to New Zealand.

To cut these down into finer detail here’s some more information on the Katipo, Red Back & White-Tail.

Katipo

The Katipo Spider (Night-Stinger) is a poisonous spider that is native to New Zealand, it’s scientific name is the Latrodectus Katipo.

The female Katipo have black rounded bodies, slender legs and a white bordered red stripe on their back with a red hourglass mark underneath, While the adult Males and Juveniles are black and white but are smaller than the female Katipo.

The Katipo lives in beach grasses and other vegetation, small stones, driftwood and debris like empty cans, bottles etc.

Red Back

The Red Back is a poisonous spider that was originally from Australia but transferred here to New Zealand, it’s scientific name is the Latrodectus Hasseti.

The female Red Back spider has a black rounded body, slender legs with a white-bordered orange to red jagged stripe on their back and a red hourglass mark underneath, While adult males are more slender with a cream colored abdomen with brown stripes and Juveniles have white markings on the abdomen.

The Red Back spider can be found on the underside of ledges, stone overhangs and other vegetation. They are more likely than the Katipo to make their thimble-shaped webs near houses to take advantage of the warm environment.

White-Tail

The White-Tail is a poisonous spider and  just like the Red Back it was originally from Australia.

There are 2 different types of White-Tails the lampona murina & the lampona cylindrata.

The White-Tail is a distinct creature with a dark body and a white patch at the end of their cylindrical/cigar shaped abdomen. The males and Juveniles have white patches as well as white tails.

The White-Tail can be found in vegetation in gardens and bush, and around houses, which they like for the warmth. And unlike other spiders the White-Tail does not build webs.

The Maori Chief

As I walk past the rattling bushes leaves crushed under my feet, everything was peaceful until a mysterious man jumps out. Sweat starts to roll down my face as his brown beedy eyes stare into mine. My body starts trembling he stood there right in front of me as still as a statue. His dark hair glistened in the sunlight as his grey feathery cloak danced with the wind, his hand gripping onto his wooden taiaha.

As I walked in the room my body was shaking, everyone was staring at me. A drop of sweat rolls down my face onto the floor as I sit down at the table I looked up at everyone still staring at me, blood rushing through my body as butterflies fly around rapidly through my stomach.

Persuasive Writing.

LG: To be able to persuade others to our point of view through writing.

SOS:

• Plan your writing carefully so that it has and introduction, body and conclusion.

• Make sure that each paragraph begins with a main point and is backed up by evidence or detail.
• Make sure that the argument is based around facts and contains vocabulary that is appropriate to the audience.

I strongly believe, that having a sibling is way better than being an only child.

In my opinion, having a sibling is the best, because if you have siblings you’ll never get bored, for instance you can either hang out with them, talk to them or even annoy them instead of staying locked up in your room watching Tv or playing games on your phone.

I personally think that, the best reason to have a sibling is to blame things on them, for example if you break something very valuable and you know you’ll get in big trouble you can just blame it on your sibling and that way you will always stay the favorite child.

Most people would agree that using your siblings stuff can be very useful, especially if it’s clothes, because older siblings have very stylish clothes and of they don’t let you just take it! They’ll never know, unless it's one of their favorites.

Furthermore, having a sibling can be fun and useful because you can hangout with them whenever you're bored, blame stuff on them if you don’t want to get in trouble (which is all the time) and you can also use their stuff whenever you want so there are 3 incredibly good reason why having siblings are the best!

Noah's Ark

In my opinion, I should be put on the ark, because I'm a magical creature that can provide food and fresh drinking water for you and the animals,so we all don’t die of starvation and dehydration.

I strongly believe, that I need a place on the ark because, I have a magical unicorn horn that can help me protect the other animals from terrifying sea creatures, like sharks and killer whales that are trying to destroy the ark or kill the animals for food, I can even put a powerful force field around the ark when there is a storm to stop the ark from tipping over like the titanic.

Most people would agree that I should definitely be on the ark, because when it’s a cold or windy night I can make a magical fire that will never go out so it will always be there to keep everyone nice and warm.

Finally, my last reason is that … I’M JUST AWESOME! Like come on who wouldn’t want a unicorn as a companion to help cook food, be safe and even be warm on cold and windy nights.

Historical Dairy Entry

April 25th 1915

‘’BANG’’ guns fired as a hopped out of the landing boat, the first thing I did was trudge up the steep, rugged hills ready to back up the Aussies on the battlefield , I stepped inside and all that I saw were soldiers firing guns, empty bullet shells and dead decomposed bodies lying in front of me, just looking at the revolting view made me sick knowing that I could be like that in just a few days.

After we reach the trenches ready to take orders from Lieutenant (Spencer) Westmacott, he said ‘’ shoot em in the stomach and get a man for every bullet you fire!’’. Just the thought of killing another human gave me shivers, but I had to be strong to protect my country and my family, I finally gained the courage to step foot on the battlefield and fight for my country when I got there I only saw the splatter of blood on everything and the screaming of dying soldiers filled the putrid air.

Ready to protect my country from the turks I shot my first bullet it flew through the air and ‘’BANG’’  it shot someone behind enemy lines, I was just about to celebrate but I remembered that I had to stay quiet so that the turks wouldn't spot me.

I was half deaf after the turks shower of bullets the sound of screaming and crying soldiers filled the air at that dreadful moment, about over 650  NZ casualties in less than a day, it was completely and utterly horrible.

As the darkness was setting upon us the quiet whispers of soldiers pleading and praying filled the room I was sleeping in, before I dozed off into a not so peaceful slumber I prayed to god to keep me and the rest of the soldiers safe during this frightening time in our lives.

Sunday 19th March 2017

It was a bright, sunny morning my family and I got ready to go house shopping, we went over to Ariel street and found a lovely house with a sleepout and beautiful flowery wallpaper all around the walls, but the only problem was the carpet, it had rips and stains that the old owners couldn’t get rid of so we didn’t even think of buying the house, it took us half an hour to look at other houses but none of them interested us and the ones that did catch our eye were already sold, so we went home disappointed until our friends next door told us they were moving to auckland and selling their house I Was so excited but not as excited as my Mum she was already negotiating to get the price lower.

It was my sister (Abigail’s) 3rd birthday party, the house was packed, everyone was talking and the kids were screaming I couldn’t hear myself think but suddenly everyone in the room stopped it was complete silence until the clown barged in and introduced himself ‘’Hello kids im CJ the clown ready for some fun!!!’’ I gagged at what he said no one can be that happy I thought so I just sat at the table stuffing my mouth with delicious food and sweet lollies.

The Lawnmower Man

The Lawnmower Man

It was a dark and chilly night at Forest Lakes camp the moon was shining and the stars were glistening, Mr Moore was getting ready to tell us the spooky Lawnmower man story, while I was admiring the beautiful starry sky, the people around me were excited and scared at the same time.

Mr Moore was all ready to tell us the story I could feel shivers going up my spine, the story started off fine just a couple of kids teasing someone about a scar on their face but as the story went on it got worse The lawnmower man (also known as Dennis) was mowing the grass at forest lakes camp when he got distracted by children shouting his name and screaming ‘’SCARFACE!!!!’’, Dennis was so distracted by the children that he didn’t notice that his lawnmower was still on and moving towards him!! But when he realised, it was too late it had already pushed him into the lake behind him, never to be seen again.

Those last 5 words scared me to death but I knew the story was fake it had to be, as Mr Moore was telling us about Dennis’s letter they found in 2011 I heard footsteps… ‘’RRRRRRRRR!!!!!’’ ‘’AHHHHHHH!!!’’ everyone around me screamed by the roaring sound of the chainsaw.

The Majestic Tui

The Tui is a majestic creature that is endemic to New Zealand, endemic mean that it is native to this country. This bird is mostly found in the North Island or in a Kowhai tree munching on some flowers, it’s well known for is magnificent singing.

Appearance

The Tui has beautiful blue colored feathers but they look black from certain angles and dull in normal lighting but in the sunshine their feathers glisten with green,purple and bronze, Tui’s also have dark brown eyes and 2 poi on their neck. The poi on the Tui’s neck aren't just balls of fluff but are actually 2 curled up feathers. Both genders are alike to recognize a male from a female is very difficult males are larger in size and females are

darker and lack neck tuff. A long time ago the early Europeans named the Tui a Parson’s bird because their poi reminded them of a Vicar’s collar.

Diet

The Tui’s diet depends on the seasonal availability of nectar and fruits. The Tui’s move frequently to good nectar sources like Puriri and Pohutukawa. In breeding season the Tui eats large invertebrates like cicadas and stick insects, in autumn they eat medium sized fruit Wineberries, Kaikomako, Mahoe, Ngaio, Rimu and Kahikatea. In winter they eat Flowering gums, Banksis, Puriri and Tree lucerne.

Habitat

The Tui lives in the North and South Island of New Zealand and in Stewart, Chatham and the Poor Knights Island not many Tui’s live in the Poor knights Island because Tui’s and Bellbirds have to fight over the nectar and pollen. Tui’s also like to nest in Kowhai trees, small bushes and shaded areas, they also like to hang out near food and water suppliers.

Did you know that the length of an average sized Tui is 30 cm, and the weight of an average sized female is 90 kg and a male is 124 kgs.

How To Make Leche Flan (Filipino Dessert)

Goal: How To Make The Famous Pinoy Dessert Leche Flan.

Ingredients You Will Need:

• Water
• 1 ½ Cup of Chelsea White Sugar
• 8 Farmer Brown Eggs
• 1 Can of Nestle Highlander Condensed Milk
• 1 Can of Nestle Carnation Evaporated Milk
• 1 Tsp of Hansells Vanilla
• Steamer
• Cake Tin

Step #1.

First grab your 1 ½ cup of Chelsea White Sugar, and pour into a Pot/Pan on medium high heat, until the sugar has melted and turns into a golden brown color. Then pour the caramelized sugar in a Cake Tin.

Step #2

Next pour your water in a steamer to boil, while waiting for the water to simmer, mix all the ingredients together for the flan. Put 8 Farmer Brown Eggs in the bowl (Make sure to only use the egg yolks in this recipe) and stir gently using a whisk, Then add your evaporated and condensed milk, make sure to mix well after mixing add the Vanilla.

Step #3

Now use a slim cloth to strain the mixture so it’s nice and sleek when cooked.

Step #4

After straining the mixture drizzle your mixture in the Cake Tin with the caramelized sugar and cover with some tin foil then put in the steamer and steam for 45-50 minutes.

Step #5

Before you serve the dessert insert a toothpick into the Leche Flan, If the toothpick comes out clean that means your dessert is cooked, after that set your dessert aside to cool down.

Step #6

Finally serve your dessert and enjoy the sweet flavour of the Leche Flan.

Step By Step Guide To Looking

After Your Dog.

Goal: How To Look After Your Dog.

Gear Needed:

• Pedigree Dog Food
• Dog Kennel/Cage
• A Leash/Lead
• A Collar
• Fresh Water
• Food And Water Bowls
• And Toys

Step #1.

First of all put your Dog's Collar on its neck make sure it's not too tight or too loose.

Step #2.

Next grab your 2 bowls and fill 1 of them some cold and fresh water then pour some Pedigree Dog Food in the bowl and place them somewhere outside.

Step #3.

Now make sure you take your dog for a walk everyday so it can stay healthy (don’t forget to put a leash on your dog so it won’t run away!!).

Step #4.

After you have taken your Dog for a walk accumulate some Dog Toys and make sure you show him/some affection so your Dog won’t feel left out.

Step #5.

Finally when your dog is feeling exhausted take him/her to a nice and quiet place with a Dog Bed or a Normal Bed and leave them to sleep.

The Green Square represents the bright, wavy Grass swaying outside the building of Mega Bounce.

Kermit The Frog

As you can see this is Kermit, Kermit is a lime green Frog, he also has a light green upside down Crown like Collar around his Neck and long skinny Limbs that are the size of a stick. Buuuuut... at the moment he doesn't look very good he looks like an old, shriveled up, green Raisin that has been left in the middle of the Road. This all happened in the morning Kermit was look all fancy and ready for his next shoot for the Muppet Movie, as Kermit was driving in his Limo someone suddenly crashed into Kermit and he was flying out the Limo and Kermit landed in the middle of the Road then the Paparazzi came and took photos for the News.

Method 

I Vacuumed the floor first and then did the dishes it was disgusting.

I made my sisters milk by measuring how much water I put into the bottle then I added 3 scoops of

powdered milk into the bottle and shaked well.

I cleaned the garage by sweeping the floor and arranging all the boxes and brica brac.

I Learned that cleaning takes lots of skill and effort to do you must do it right and be carful.

Narwhal Narwhals Swimming in the Ocean Causing a Commotion Cause they are so AWESOME!!!!!!!!

I bet after singing that song you're wondering ''What in the world is a Narwhal?!'' well I'll tell you so just sit back, relax and enjoy.

The Narwhal also known as the Unicorn of the sea have two teeth one grows to be a sword like, spiral tusk that grows to be 2.7 meters long, and the other tooth also known as the ivory tusk grows straight through the Narwhals upper lip and can grow to be 9 feet long. A Narwhal changes color as they age Newborns are a blue-gray an Adolescent id blue and black Adults are molten gray and old Narwhals are nearly all white, Narwhals also have compact eyes and a long ridge going down to their backs to their tails or ''flukes''.

Narwhals are a pale-colored porpoise found in Arctic Coastal water and rivers, they can also be found living in the cold waters of the Arctic Circle near Northern Canada, Greenland, Norway and Russia. Narwhals hibernate for up to five months under sea ice in the Baffin Bay-Davis area '' WOW so Interesting!''

Narwhals create a sort of vacuum and suck up their food which includes Squid, Greenland Halibut, Shrimp, Arctic and Polar Cod, Rockfish, Flounder and Crabs. Narwhals do their eating at the ice floe edge and i the ice-free summer waters. Narwhals only have two residual teeth. The male Narwhal tusk is thought to play no role in feeding because male and tuskless females devour the same diet.

Oil and Gas expansions and climate change produce danger to Narwhals. Increased development means more shipping vessels, creating more occasions for collisions and more underwater noise that can interfere with communication among the Narwhals. Narwhals are often seen in groups of 15 to 20 of these majestic creatures, but Narwhal gatherings have about hundreds or even several thousands of Narwhals. Sometimes these groups of Narwhals get trapped by shifting pack ice and get killed by inuit hunters, Polar Bears, or Walruses.

So after telling you nearly everything there is to know about the legendary creature the Narwhal like what they look like, where their habitat is, what their diet is and the threats that Narwhals might face.
